Are you ok? I’m checking in with you to see if you’re doing alright.
This year might turn out to be not such a great year for a lot of people. Next year will be better.
Everybody is stressed. There’s a lot going on!
Try to remember two things: First, stress impacts your performance.
Some of us have claimed to be better under pressure. In retrospect that was a mistake. It did not contemplate trying to <gestures aimlessly at laptop> during a pandemic, a war, the collapse of Western civilization, and global climate calamity.
So, let’s give ourselves a break.
Second: Everybody else is stressed, too. It all impacts them, too.
Half of all people are handling it a little better than you, half of them are taking it a little worse.
Let’s try to give them a break, as well.
While all of this is going on, some bad things are going to happen to you.
Whatever happens, remember that it came during a historically awful time.
We are all making mistakes. We are going to do better next year.
This morning I am going to look in the mirror, look at my inbox, look at this floundering draft in Word and say to myself:
You know what, under the circumstances, this is really not that bad.
And I’m going to do better next year.
