What is this thing?

If you’re a manager, if you plan to become a manager, or you’d just like to learn better leadership skills to put to work on the job — this is for you.

The workshop will be quick and fun. It’s 1-hour session plus a 30-minute Q&A.

I’ll recap three of the most popular topics from my writing and my coaching:

1. ☑️ 1-on-1 meetings: These meetings are a crucial element of a healthy relationship between a manager and their team, and the core of the 11 Promises. We’ll discuss the cadence, agenda, and outcomes. I’ll also talk about two of the most common worries people have about meetings with their manager: What should I prepare, and what if I don’t have anything to say?

2. 🆙 Managing Up: I’ll give you a framework for managing your manager. We’ll also discuss one crucial ingredient that most people miss: What are the needs of your manager’s manager? This really puts your empathy skills to work and ensures you’re giving your boss what they need most.

3. ↩️ Feedback: We’ll discuss how managers use positive feedback to get better results from their team. In fact I believe that managers should always use positive feedback, and avoid falling back into the authoritative habit of “constructive criticism” — two words that make me want to wash my hands every time I type them.
